My family came over to the United States from Ireland and Scotland several generations back.  They married the local inhabitants, which also makes me part Native American.  My brother is married to a Canadian (which is almost a foreigner, right?).  We have had first hand experience with the immigration laws of the United States.  But the laws were followed.

I don’t have a problem with people coming to the United States.  I say, the more the merrier.  I do have a problem with people breaking the law to get here.  It’s like find your new spouse while they are cheating on their current spouse.  What on earth makes us think they will walk the straight and narrow once they get by with breaking the law?  Why should the even bother?

The argument I hear most often is that most of the illegals that come into this country are law abiding citizens - which is an oxymoron if I’ve ever heard one.  How can you be law abiding AND here illegally?  You can’t.  What they are saying is that these people feel like it is okay to break a law set up be the country they want to be in because that law doesn’t fit their needs.  Will that also be true with other issues?  Taxes?  Stealing? Does the end really justify the means?

There has to be a way to make the broken system work.  The idea that our borders must be secured has been proven more times than needs to be mentioned.  The answer can not be letting those that broke the law get by with it.  They must go home and follow the process that others are standing in line right now to follow.  It is the only right way to solve an issue this wide.
