Lawsuits have gotten out of control. I beauty contestant was crowned queen only to find out a few days later that the numbers had be counted incorrectly. The pageant tried to compensate her – including paying her entry fee, offering free fees for the next year, and letting her keep the $4,500 necklace she had been given, but that just wouldn’t cut it.
The former queen – who is proving that the “beauty” pageant scene is now all about the money – is suing for half a million dollars. Her claims are outlandish – including discrimination to some extent – and make her look much uglier than her natural beauty shows.
It is important that people have the ability to protect themselves, but the rash of insane suits just continues to grow. One woman was sued for smoking in her own apartment – by the people living 50 feet from her door. A man sued a laundry mate for half a million for losing his pants.
If the loser had to pay the court costs and the legal fees of the winner, AND if the losing lawyer had to incur some of the expense, then these fragrant neglects of the system would probably grow few and far between.
Make the loser pay and the little guy will not lose his shirt for losing a pair of pants.
