Fred Thompson has yet to debate any one on any issue.  He’s spent this time touring the country doing some interviews and public appearances.  He waited to announce his candidacy until AFTER the Republican debates on Fox.  Now he has turned down a chance to appear on a PBS debate.

There doesn’t seem to be any logical reason for Thompson to avoid his competition.  He is suppose to be articulate, have strong passion about the issues, and should be EXTREMELY comfortable in front of the camera.  Why is does it seem he is running from confrontation?

Thompson will not be the only candidate to snub the debate.  Giuliani, Romney, and McCain have all politely declined the invitation.  The debate will still go on.  Unlike Univision, which cancelled its event, and CNN, which changed the scheduling to try and accommodate more candidates, PBS will continue with the five that have agreed to appear.

It’s a shame that four men who want to run this great nation aren’t taking every chance to talk to as much of that country as they can.  Television is still one of the most used mediums in the United States.  If you want to get the vote then you got to get out your message.  Televised debates are free publicity, so what is the hold up?
